People take different amounts of time to process new information and ideas.
Some people process on the spot, as the words come out of your mouth, they understand, imagine, feel the implications. Other people need time… A few hours, a few days, even a few weeks.
It’s worth knowing your team members’ normal processing time, so you can treat each one accordingly.
If you’re one of those immediate processing types; you realise what that means already, right?
If you’re not, let me give you some suggestions ;)
It affects how you finish conversations. Some conversations will end with, “so this is just what I’m thinking at the moment, ca you have. A think about it and let me know what you think.” Or “I’d like to come back to this next week and get your perspective”. Or “hey, you know that chat we had the other day about moving to X… Have you had any other thoughts about it?”
